Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is a Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim, a Malaysian. There are two older brothers, and two younger ones. Due to unrest in Sri Lanka, her family were forced to relocate to Bahrain in the late 1980s. After completing high school in Bahrain she received a Scholarship to the University of Sydney to pursue the Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. Her passion for languages and cultures inspired her to enroll in the Berlitz language school, where she mastered French and Arabic in addition to learning Spanish. In 2006, she won Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed for Miss Universe 2006. In 2006 she won the Miss Sri Lanka title. Then, she stepped into television to host a program on Sri Lankan companies called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been raised both in Copenhagen and Bangalore. As a teenager, she played in national level badminton tournaments. She later resigned from the sport and became a fashion designer. Padukone comes from Mangalore and her native language is Konkani. Padukone Village is located inside Kundapura Taluk within the Udupi District in Karnataka located in India. Prakash Padukone has retired as an internationally renowned badminton athlete Her mother, on the other hand, also works as a travel advisor.
